Santa Fe displays its holiday spirit
The Santa Fe New Mexican’s Holiday Display Extravaganza presented by the city of Santa Fe Environmental Services Department recognizes the efforts of local residents to share their holiday spirit through imaginative displays.
The 2018 Editor’s Choice went to Paul and Kelsie Geirger, whose home in the 3000 block of Siringo Road wasn’t the largest display or most elaborate but exuded the cozy, homey quality that spoke to reviewers.
The Geirgers received a $100 gift card from Violet Crown Cinema, which was a sponsor of the third annual Holiday Display Extravaganza. A map of displays around Santa Fe can be viewed at santafenewmexican.com/holidays
Rick Kilkenny received recognition as the People’s Choice honoree, and son Julian was recognized as runner-up in the Editor’s Choice category. Julian and Rick have a friendly competition, with Julian saying beating his father’s display in the 6300 block of Calle Zanate will be tough because his father has a larger lot than his in the 5900 block of Monte Rosa.
Rick, who retired from FedEx three years ago, said he and his son were motivated to share their displays in the Holiday Display Extravaganza after seeing prior years’ entrants and thought, “Ours look better than that.”
