New Chef’s Cottage addition to The Willcox is open for business in Aiken
The Willcox has a new place for its guests to stay.
In February, the award-winning hotel began accepting reservations for the Chef’s Cottage.
An open house was held there in mid-March.
The Chef’s Cottage, which has five bedrooms and two levels, is across Colleton Avenue from The Willcox.
Guests can reserve one room, multiple rooms or the entire cottage. Short-term and long-term rental opportunities are available.
The lot where the Chef’s Cottage is located is about a quarter of an acre in size.
Geoff and Shannon Ellis, who own The Willcox, purchased the Chef’s Cottage property for $125,000 in 2014 in the name of Ellis Management LLC.
“There were three buildings on it – a main house, a smaller cottage in the back and a storage shed type of thing way in the back,” Geoff told the Aiken Standard last year while the Chef’s Cottage was being constructed. “The original chef at The Willcox lived in the house, so it’s part of the hotel’s history and that’s where we got the Chef’s Cottage name. It had been handed down through the generations, so it was still in the chef’s family when we bought it.”
Because of the primary home’s rundown condition, the Ellises decided to tear it down, and they also removed the other structures.
