Former Policeman Convicted in Cocaine Rip-Off Case
MIAMI (AP) _ A former Miami policeman whose duties once included counseling students against drugs was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in federal prison following his conviction in one of a series of drug rip-off cases.
Ricardo Perez, 25, was convicted by a federal jury of conspiring to possess cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and filing a false income tax return.
Perez’ attorney, Rene Sotorrio, said the conviction and sentence would be appealed.
One of Perez’ assigned duties at the time of his indictment in 1987 was counseling public school pupils against drug use.
