Sodergren Nets 2 As River Hawks Roll
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Sophomore forward Connor Sodergren of Tewksbury scored two goals to lead the UMass Lowell hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Colgate in non-conference play on Friday night at Class of 1965 Arena.
UMass Lowell improves to 10-8-1 overall, while the Raiders drop to 6-11-2 on the season. The River Hawks are now 8-3-0 in 11 games on the road this season and move above .500 in non-conference play with a 5-4-0 record.
Sodergren scored his third goal of the season with 1:39 left in the first period to get the River Hawks on the board first in the contest.
Colgate owned an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal in the opening frame.
Junior forward Kenny Hausinger added his sixth of the season to extend the River Hawks lead to 2-0 on the power play with 11:19 to go in the second frame.
The River Hawks outshot Colgate by a 6-5 count in the second period.
Sodergren added the empty-netter for his second goal of the night with 1:27 to play to seal the win for the River Hawks.
Senior goalie Christoffer Hernberg stopped 25 shots in his seventh career shutout for the River Hawks, which included 11 stops in the opening stanza and nine saves in the final frame. Colgate’s Mitch Benson recorded 14 saves in the losing effort for the Raiders.
Senior forwards Nick Master and Ryan Dmowski also played well for UML.
The River Hawks return to action at Colgate in the series finale on Saturday night.
