Safe Sitter Program class on March 23

March 10, 2019

ASHLAND — Healthy Community Services (HCS) will host a Safe Sitter class Saturday, March 23 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Bellefonte Centre (1000 Ashland Drive) on the campus of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH).

The cost of the class is $35 and includes a Safe Sitter backpack, training manual and lunch. Safe Sitter prepares students in grades sixth through eighth to be safe when they are home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who is choking, as well and helpful information such as what to do in the event of severe weather. During Safe Sitter classes, students will use manikins to practice CPR.

Lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises based around the four skill areas of safety, child care, first aid and rescue. OLBH is a registered Safe Sitter teaching site and has been providing the program for more than 25 years.
