Girlfriend gets life in prison for death of San Antonio man in 2017
A San Antonio woman convicted last month of killing her Army veteran boyfriend was sentenced Monday to life in prison.
A jury here found Laura Flores Messick, 32, guilty in April of killing Chason Montez DeOca, 40, in June 2017.
He was shot once through the heart, and Messick admitted cutting his neck afterward to see if he was dead.
Messick chose to be sentenced by Judge Catherine Torres-Stahl, who sentenced her to the maximum of life in prison following a hearing.
