Umar Akmal helps Pakistan to 191 against Australia
MIRPUR, Bangladesh (AP) — Umar Akmal struck a career-best 94 Sunday as Pakistan scored an intimidating 191-5 against Australia in their World Twenty20 group 2 match.
Umar Akmal struck nine fours and four sixes during his sixth half-century and was associated in a sturdy 96-run third-wicket stand with older brother Kamran Akmal, who scored a run-a-ball 31.
Umar Akmal was out caught at long-on off pace bowler Mitchell Starc while trying to hit a six that would have taken him to a maiden T20 international century.
The Akmal brothers repaired the early damage inflicted by Australia’s pace bowlers that had reduced Pakistan to 25-2 by the fifth over.
This is Australia’s first match while Pakistan lost its opening game to India by seven wickets.
