Canucks Sign Defenseman Vydareny
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ The Vancouver Canucks signed 19-year-old defenseman Rene Vydareny on Wednesday and announced he will play for Slovakia in the upcoming world junior championships.
Vydareny practiced with the Canucks this season but couldn’t sign earlier because of a contract dispute with his former club team in Slovakia.
After joining the Slovakian team at the World Junior Hockey Championships later this month, Vydareny will report to Vancouver’s IHL affiliate in Kansas City.
Vydareny was Vancouver’s third choice, 69th overall, in the 1999 draft and played for Rimouski of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season, recording seven goals and 23 assists in 51 games.
