Court Says British Drink Can’t Call Itself Champagne

LONDON (AP) _ An appeals court flattened the hopes of a fizzy elderflower drink Friday, ordering the manufacturers to stop calling it champagne.

Three appeal judges upheld a joint complaint by French champagne houses and a French government agency.

Guy Woodall and Ray Bevan, who sell the nonalcoholic ″Elderflower Champagne″ in champagne-style bottles with wired-enclosed corks, said they planned to appeal to the House of Lords, Britain’s highest court.
