Perugino Remains in Coma After Surgery
BORMIO, Italy (AP) _ Unbeaten Italian middleweight Antonio Perugino remained in a coma Thursday after six hours of brain surgery to remove a blood clot.
Dr. Romero Fontana is optimistic the 29-year-old boxer will make a full recovery. Fontana operated on Perugino at the Morelli hospital in nearby Sondalo.
``He will stay in the intensive care unit for a few more days,″ Fontana said.
Perugino collapsed hours after beating Argentina’s Orlando Javier Acuna on Tuesday.
Perugino, the WBA’s third-ranked middleweight, is 26-0 as a pro. He was a member of Italy’s 1996 Olympic team.
