2019 Akron Marathon to step off at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Children’s Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series Marathon, Half Marathon and Team Relay will step off on Sept. 28 at a new location: Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens.

Registration for the race series opens on Wednesday, Jan. 9.

The new course will include elevation changes with less upward climbs for runners and updated relay legs with both shorter and longer distance options, according to Akron Marathon Race Director Brian Polen. The course will traverse urban routes on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and Summit Lake’s floating bridge before concluding at Canal Park.

The Akron Marathon is working with the Akron Metropolitan Regional Transit Authority to arrange transportation for runners from downtown parking areas to the starting line at Stan Hywet.

It’s the 17th year for the race, which has received national recognition, and the fifth year of Akron’s race series, which features additional races on June 29 and Aug. 10.
