EagleJays qualify for state meet in 3 events
BARABOO — Four Jefferson/Cambridge swimmers qualified for the Division 2 competition of the WIAA State Girls Swimming and Diving Championships out of the Baraboo sectional on Saturday.
Senior Megan Duffy advanced in three events. She tied for third in the 50 freestyle in 24.28 seconds and is tied with two other swimmers for the third seed at the state meet.
Duffy also qualified in the 100 freestyle after playing sixth at the sectional in 53.79. She is also seeded sixth at state.
Sophomore Josie Peterson also advanced in the 50 freestyle after placing sixth at the sectional in 24.57. She is seeded 13th at state.
Jefferson/Cambridge’s 200 freestyle team of Josie Peterson, sophomore Sophie Peterson, junior Halle Peterson and Duffy advanced to state in the 200 freestyle relay after placing third at the sectional in 1:41.35. The team is seeded fifth at state.
The school record holding 200 medley relay team of Duffy, Josie Peterson, senior Olivia Gallardo and Halle Peterson narrowly missed the qualifying cut after placing sixth at the sectional in 1:55.37.
Jefferson/Cambridge finished eighth out of 14 teams at the loaded sectional with a score of 130 points.
The Division 2 state meet will be held on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the UW-Natatorium in Madison.
