Burntwood Tavern: Northeast Ohio’s best weekend brunches, breakfasts

BRECKSVILLE, Ohio – Our brunch and breakfast series continues as we check out Burntwood Tavern. Here’s a look at what to expect:

Location + hours: 8188 Brecksville Road, Brecksville. It’s just south of Wallings Road and to the east of Interstate 77. It’s on the west side of the road with good-sized parking lot. Weekend brunch hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Menu or buffet? Menu.

About the food: It’s a small brunch menu – nine items at $13 and less - but it covers traditional to unique. (Other lunch offerings are available.) BWT Classic Brunch is bacon, three eggs, crispy potatoes, nine-grain toast and fruit. Plus there’s pancakes, Nutella-stuffed French Toast, omelet of the day and a burrito with eggs, applewood smoked bacon, peppers, onions, oven-roasted tomato, cheddar jack cheese and whole wheat tortilla. It’s served with potatoes and fruit. Avocado toast was OK – a healthy option but needs to be jazzed up a bit. It’s avocado spread on whole-grain bread with sliced tomatoes and topped with an egg.

About the ambiance: Several televisions were tuned in to sports with the sound off. Light soul and assorted pop and crossover sounds played. Staff is friendly in the restaurant, which has a decidedly rustic setting.

Don’t-miss food: Nashville Chicken Biscuit. Sweet and spicy chicken topped with egg, American cheese and sausage gravy is served with crispy potatoes on the side. You get just a dab of heat from hot sauce (a perfect amount) mixed in, soft texture from the egg and biscuit, and creaminess from the gravy. As our bartender David correctly pointed out: “All these flavors shouldn’t be good together but they are.”

Don’t-miss drink: Bloody Mary bar. This loaded meal in a glass (cheese, shrimp, bacon, more) is what BT is famous for, and on a recent Saturday morning it got a workout.

About Burntwood Tavern: It’s a locally owned chain of restaurants run by Chagrin Falls-based Chef Art Pour Restaurant Group. Other locations are in Chagrin Falls, Rocky River, Solon, Cuyahoga Falls, Lyndhurst, Westlake, Fairlawn and Canton. The company also owns M Italian in Chagrin Falls and Rose Italian Kitchen in Solon.
