Moron of the Morning: Couple Shoplifts Clothes For Court Appearance
Court officials encourage everyone to dress appropriately when they have a court date. However, a Wareham couple is accused of taking that to a whole different level.
Heather Murphy, 25, and Jason Willoughby, 33, of Wareham, Massachusetts are charged with stealing clothes from the Walmart in Wareham that Murphy said she needed for a court appearance, according to a news release from Wareham Acting Police Chief John A. Walcek. About 10 p.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to Walmart for a shoplifting incident in progress and found Murphy and Willoughby leaving the store, the chief said.
Murphy opened a handbag and began handing back clothes she tried to steal, according to the news release. She told the officers she needed the clothes for a court appearance on Wednesday, police said. Officer Joseph Cardoza found Willoughby had shoes stuffed in his pants at the waistline and other stolen items were in their car, police said.
The couple was placed under arrest. Willoughby is charged with shoplifting, third offense, and Murphy is charged with shoplifting, police said.
