Scouts can earn music merit badge at Pavilion

May 23, 2019

Scouts looking to get musical this summer are in luck with an upcoming day designed just for them at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands. Beginning at 7 p.m. June 7, Boy and Girl Scouts are invited to attend Scout Day to earn their Music Merit Badge.

The pavilion has hosted this event for six or seven years, Ashley Gravois said, who is the pavilion’s public relations and educational outreach manager. She said this day is the perfect fit to expose children to the performing arts.

“It hits home with our mission, and it’s a great way to get these kids involved. Our mission is providing educational opportunities and introducing children to the arts, so this ties in perfectly with the scouts earning their merit badges,” Gravois said.

At this free event, there is to be different interactive stations set up around the pavilion’s North Plaza that attendees can visit.

“Each station meets the requirement per the merit badge worksheets. There will be a build-your-own instrument station, instrument petting zoo and an area to learn about composers, musicians and the history of music,” Gravois said.

After about an hour of free time for scouts to visit the stations, a concert by the Texas Music Festival Orchestra will begin. There will also be Merit Badge Counselors on-site to check if the scouts have completed all the requirements to earn their badges.

Gravois said the pavilion is requesting that all scouts preregister online at the pavilion’s website, where registration will be available until June 2. Scouts should also attend the event in uniform.
