Methodist Church to prepare Thanksgiving meals to those in need
HARLINGEN — Looking for a home-cooked meal on Thanksgiving Day?
The First United Methodist Church is hosting its 8th Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner this year, the church said in a release.
“ The goal for this dinner is to provide a home-cooked, sit-down, family-style meal for the needy in our community to allow them to celebrate the holiday,” says the release.
For those volunteering to help, there’s more to it than serving food.
“ We have many volunteers for this event,” it says. “We hope you will be willing to join us in the ‘relational service,’ this event calls for. In other words, some of the most effective work we do at this dinner is the simple conversation around a dinner table.”
The event needs plenty of volunteers to prep, cook, serve and clean up.
