AYER -- Pastry chef Douglas Phillips rose to the top in this year’s Holiday Baking Championship on television’s Food Network, taking home the grand prize in Monday night’s finale.
Phillips, a culinary instructor at North Shore Community College, wins $25,000, an original video to be aired on FoodNetwork.com , and a feature article in “Food Network Magazine.”
Monday night’s show, “Gifts of Greatness,” tasked the remaining three contestants with last projects. “In the pre-heat, they created edible holiday ornament display,” according to the network’s press release. Then for the final showdown, “the bakers channel holiday gift shopping by creating a cake that is decorated like a gift on the outside and reveals a surprise inside when sliced.”
Phillips lives in Ayer with his wife, Taylor, and 20-month-old daughter Claire. He said in an interview last week that winning the money would be great, he also was hoping for exposure for his career and teaching.
