Philly schools to close early Wednesday; officials decry ‘dangerous’ conditions inside schools

Philadelphia Federation of Teachers president Jerry Jordan is worried about hot conditions inside city schools.

With temperatures in the 90s and the heat index over 100, Philadelphia students and teachers are boiling over building conditions inside 200-plus public schools.

Schools will dismiss at noon Wednesday, officials said, but there was no relief on Tuesday, when the forecasted high was in the mid-90s. Most Philadelphia School District buildings are old, with no air conditioning.
