75-year-old Akron man accused of fatally shooting son

AKRON, Ohio — A 75-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting his son.

Leon Portis Sr. of Akron is charged with murder. He is in the Summit County Jail awaiting his first court appearance on Tuesday.

The shooting happened about 2 p.m. Sunday at Portis’ home Silvercrest Avenue in the city’s Kenmore neighborhood, police said.

Portis Sr. told police that he and his son fought and that his son. He pulled out a gun and fatally shot his 45-year-old son, according to police.

Police found the 45-year-old man dead in the driveway of the home with a gunshot wound.

The Summit County Medical Examiner is performing on autopsy on the 45-year-old man. His identity has not yet been released.
