France coach Saint-Andre cuts training squad to 23 men
CANET-EN-ROUSSILLON, France (AP) — France coach Philippe Saint-Andre is close to finalizing his roster for the upcoming Six Nations tournament after cutting his training squad to 23 players on Wednesday.
Eight of the 31 players he summoned to a week-long training session in the south of France left the camp held near Perpignan to return with their respective clubs.
Following Wednesday’s training session, Wenceslas Lauret, Alexandre Flanquart, Yannick Nyanga, Sofiane Guitoune, Noa Nakaitaci, Remi Lamerat and Gael Fickou all left the camp, with the injured scrum-half Sebastien Tillous-Borde also returning to his Toulon club.
Their departure is not definitive though, with Saint-Andre set to announce his official 23-man roster on Sunday.
France, which finished fourth last year and last in 2013, opens its campaign against Scotland on Feb. 7 at Stade de France.
