Police ID Victim, Suspect In Monroe County Shooting
PARADISE TWP. — Police identified the victim and alleged gunman in a morning shooting in a Monroe County municipal building.
Michael Tripus, 65, of Stroudsburg, a Paradise Township employee, was pronounced dead at the scene and police identified the shooter as David Green, 72, of Swiftwater.
Police said Green was arrested without incident and there is no threat to the public.
Police are investigating the motive of the shooting.
Gary Konrath, chairman of the Paradise Twp. board of supervisors, said Tripus worked for the township.
Approximately four people should have been in the building at 5912 Paradise Valley Road on a Tuesday morning. Konrath said he believes the three others are giving statements to the state police.
In a statement, state police confirmed that they responded to the Paradise Twp. municipal building at 8:20 a.m. for reports of “shots fired” inside the building.
Konrath said a medical helicopter was called to the scene, but was cancelled as Tripus had already died. Monroe County Coroner Thomas A. Yanac Jr., was called to the scene along with the deputy coroner.
Trooper Anthony Petroski, a spokesman for the state police in Monroe County, tweeted earlier that the “incident is contained.”
Paradise Township is about 20 miles north of Ross Township, where a gunman opened fire at a Board of Supervisors’ meeting in 2013, killing three.
