TEWKSBURY -- A police investigation into a non-fatal overdose call led to the arrest of a Lawrence man found in possession of 23 grams of heroin Friday, authorities say.

Stuard Hernandez, 21, was caught attempting to deliver the drug at Tewksbury’s TownePlace Suites, according to a Tewksbury Police Department press release issued Tuesday.

Police charged Hernandez with trafficking more than 18 grams of heroin.

The Lawrence resident was additionally charged with vandalizing property after he intentionally broke a sprinkler head inside the cell at the Tewksbury Police Department, police said. The incident caused water damage.

Hernandez was arraigned in Lowell District Court on Monday where his bail was set at $2,500 cash, according to Elizabeth Vlock, spokesperson for the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

He is slated to reappear in court on Dec. 5.
