Merry Eugena (Gena) Free Greenhalgh of Orem, Utah passed away quietly in her home at 7:52 am on Friday, July 13th, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Gena was born on December 25, 1947 in Taft, California. Gena’s life can be best described as a life devoted to serving her family and her neighbors. Countless individuals have felt their burdens lifted by her simple acts of service that included: an encouraging note, a warm embrace, a warm meal, a beautiful flower arrangement, fresh fruit or vegetables, a side-walk chat, and countless other acts of kindness.

Gena was an accomplished artist who loved finding and creating beauty everywhere she lived. Her love of beautiful things motivated her to become a talented gardener, as evidenced by the lush flowers and beautiful trees that adorn her yard.

She was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities with absolute dedication and enthusiasm. Her recent opportunity to teach the youth Sunday School classes became her favorite calling as she loved to interact with the youth in her class. Gena also spent many years working with family history and could describe vast amounts of family relationships from memory. Family and service was central to her life.

Gena is preceded in death by her mother Martha Betty Jean McLaughlin Free and her father Stanley Eugene Free. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John Farr Greenhalgh and her 6 children and their families. Devin Carri, Cory and Emma Wengreen; Brance, Gaylene and Caitlyn Greenhalgh; Corbett, Elizabeth, Samantha, Morgan, Johnny, Leah and Ethan Greenhalgh; Garrick, Shelli, Lyndi, Ashleigh, Tanner, Holli and Brynli Greenhalgh; Linc, Meagan, Zellie, Teigen and Tayli Greenhalgh; and Brie Greenhalgh. Gena made her immediate and extended family the center of her life and in her passing, has left an unfillable void.

A closed-casket viewing will be held on Monday, July 16th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the Relief Society room at the LDS Stake Center at 1000 North Main Street, Orem Utah. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, July 17th at 11:00 am at the same Stake Center. Internment at the Orem City Cemetery will occur directly after the funeral services.
