Peabody Energy: 2Q Earnings Snapshot
ST LOUIS (AP) _ Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU) on Wednesday reported second-quarter earnings of $37.1 million.
On a per-share basis, the St. Louis-based company said it had net income of 34 cents. Earnings, adjusted to account for discontinued operations, were 37 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 28 cents per share.
The coal mining company posted revenue of $1.15 billion in the period, which missed Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.23 billion.
Peabody Energy shares have fallen 27% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 index has increased 20%. The stock has declined 48% in the last 12 months.
