Conemaugh Meyersdale names new chief nursing officer

February 11, 2019

Pam Swansboro, MS, RN, was recently named Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at Conemaugh Meyersdale Medical Center. Prior to accepting her new position at Conemaugh Meyersdale, Swansboro served as Director of Nursing at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. She will be replacing retiring CNO, Denise Shesko, MS, RN.

“We’re very excited to have Pam leading our nursing department,” said Heather Smith, chief executive officer of Conemaugh Meyersdale. “She brings a wealth of nursing knowledge and experience to Meyersdale that will help us achieve our mission, making communities healthier. Pam and Denise have worked together closely in order to foster a seamless transition.”

While earning her nursing degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Swansboro worked summers as a nursing assistant at Conemaugh Memorial. After graduation, Swansboro immediately began working at Conemaugh Memorial in med/surg and critical care. She has held nurse management positions at Conemaugh Memorial and Somerset Hospital. Her prior work experiences include: quality management, infection control, occupational health, clinical education, administrative supervisor, and as director of a specialized nursing unit. She earned her Master of Science Degree in nursing administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

In her new role, Swansboro will be responsible for patient safety, quality of care, regulatory compliance, and fiscal soundness.

“Conemaugh Meyersdale has a reputation of providing outstanding personalized care to its patients, and I want to continue this tradition while ensuring patient and staff safety,” Swansboro said.

Additionally, she will be responsible for formulating and implementing new nursing strategies along with keeping staff educated on the latest innovations and techniques.

Outside of her nursing duties, Swansboro is well known around the state for her advocacy of organ, tissue and eye donation.

“I encourage everyone to be an organ donor. It’s very easy to become a donor and it gives the greatest gift of all — the gift of life,” she said.

Currently she serves as co-chairwoman for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Organ Donation Advisory Committee. She was sworn into the committee by Gov. Tom Corbet in 2014.

“I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my nursing career and meeting all the patients, staff and employees at Conemaugh Meyersdale,” Swansboro said. “I think collectively, we as a team can make Conemaugh Meyersdale a model hospital for rural health care.”
