John Paul Kebles Named North End Slovak Citizens Club’s ‘Person Of The Year’
John Paul Kebles (Kebs) has been selected as the North End Slovak Citizens Club “Person of the Year.” He has been a regular member of the club since 1972 and is a life member. He is a past president of the club and is currently is the chairman of board of governors. Kebles retired from Choice One Federal Credit Union after 32 years of service. During his career at the credit union, he began as a volunteer treasurer and was elevated to president and CEO. He was a board member of many financial foundations and associations and won many citations and awards, including Pennsylvania Credit Union Professional of the Year; the Pennsylvania Credit Union Hinchey Award, the Pennsylvania Credit Union Keystone Achievement of the Year, the Levin Award for political involvement and leadership, the St. Conrad’s Young Men’s Society Man of the Year, and the Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Leadership Award. He was also recognized by Congressman Paul Kanjorski in the House of Representatives Congressional Records. In addition, Kebles was instrumental in starting the Pennsylvania Credit Union House in Washington, D.C., and he continues to serve as ambassador for the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association Reality Fair program. He volunteers for many organizations, including St. Joseph’s Center, St. Nicholas-St. Mary’s, and Bishop Hoban (Holy Redeemer) High School, Geisinger Children’s Miracle Network, St. Conrad’s, and continues to run many golf tournaments to raise funds for charities. Kebles has been, and continues to be a mentor for past and current Slovak Club officers. He works as pro shop manager at Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course and volunteers at the club and other church and community organizations. He is married to the former Henrietta Ott Kebles. They reside in Shavertown. They are the parents of Dr. John P. Kebles (deceased) and Patricia A. Wood and her husband, Todd, and the grandparents of Benjamin and John Kebles Henderson and Megan Wood, who was the 2017 Club Student of the Year.
