Tamarine Wins, Dokic Ousted in Bali
BALI, Indonesia (AP) _ Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand swept Nicole Pratt of Australia 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of the Wismilak International on Tuesday and Jelena Dokic slumped to another early defeat.
Dokic, seeded fourth, lost to Tathiana Garbin 7-5, 6-3.
``I had chances to win the match, even if I lost in two,″ she said. ``I had big leads and I let them go. I beat myself more than she beat me.″
Dokic is ranked 21st after reaching a career-high No. 4 this time last year. The Serbia-Montenegro player lost in the second round of the U.S. Open.
The fifth-seeded Tamarine, who beat Daniela Hantuchova en route to a fourth-round appearance at the U.S. Open, won in 44 minutes. She said her confidence was boosted by a weekend audience with the King of Thailand.
``It was the happiest day of my life,″ she said. ``It was something I was dreaming about.″
Croatian qualifier Ivana Abramovic upset seventh-seeded Emilie Loit of France 7-6 (4), 7-5 and Maria Sanchez Lorenzo of Spain beat Sarah Taylor of the United States 6-1, 6-4 to earn a second-round match with top-seeded Chanda Rubin.
Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany downed Chinese qualifier Sun Tian Tian 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1 and will next play second-seeded Elena Dementieva.
