Nevada man gets 6.5 years in prison for child internet porn
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A northern Nevada man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for downloading more than 800 photos and videos of child pornography from the internet.
U.S. District Judge Howard McKibben sentenced 48-year-old Monte Chaix Wednesday to 78 months in prison and lifetime supervision upon his release.
Chaix pleaded guilty Feb. 20 to one count of receipt of child pornography.
A task force made up of FBI agents and local law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence based on a tip the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received on Twitter.
An examination of electronic devices authorities seized revealed about 700 images and 150 videos depicted children being sexually abused by adults and engaged in explicit sexual conduct.
Prosecutors say Chaix later admitted to searching for and downloading child porn from the internet.
