The acting troupe arrives in "Little Red Riding Hood," performed by Southeast Community College students at Paddock Elementary School on Thursday. SCC has been bringing interactive, theatrical performances to area schools for three years.

Southeast Community College students and staff brought an interactive twist on a classic tale to students at Paddock Lane Elementary on Thursday.

Under the direction of SCC theater instructor Jon Gruett, the acting troupe performed “Little Red Riding Hood,” with a few poetic liberties taken to get the third- to fifth-grader audience involved.

“For some students this is the only chance they get to see live theater,” Gruett said.

As the story progressed, students were invited to join the actors in various roles, from bandits to cheerleaders and even the wheels on a horse-drawn carriage.

The SCC acting troupe also performed at Stoddard Elementary on Thursday morning.

The annual program that brings interactive theater to area elementary schools is in its third year, according to Gruett, with plans to bring plays to Lincoln elementary schools.

Each year, the acting troupe switches off performing to kindergarten to second-grade students to third- to fifth-graders.
