Knight-Williams Move To Top Of Elmhurst Field

July 15, 2018

For more than a decade, the Paul McGowan Memorial Member-Guest golf tournament has been a lot like a trip to your favorite restaurant. There may be some specials, but you’re pretty sure you know what you’re going to see at the top of the menu. Same could be said for Elmhurst Country Club, where Ed Knight and Eric Williams sit atop the leaderboard. The eight-time McGowan champions posted another steady round Saturday, moving into a one-shot lead over defending champions Chris Hoban and John Mikiewicz heading to the final 27 holes of play today. A second straight 3-under-par 69 put Knight-Williams just ahead of Hoban-Mikiewicz, Art Rinaldi III-Tyler McGarry and first-day medalists Bill Pabst and John Horutz, all tied at 139. Marc and Kyle Bowen had a shaky start, bogeying three of their first five, but reeled off five straight birdies starting at No. 11 to move within three of the lead, which is where last year’s runners-up in sudden death, Lou and Kevin Nardella, find themselves as well. Mike Bonavoglia and Marc Cloruri are another shot back, and five behind are Bob Pipcho-Todd Hinkley and Mike and David Mecca.
