Vermont sees highs in voter turnout for midterm

November 8, 2018

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Vermont officials say voter turnout in the midterm election was high this year.

WCAX-TV reports the Secretary of State’s office estimates about 58 percent of Vermont’s 487,000 registered voters cast their ballots Tuesday. According to Secretary of State Jim Condos, the department received twice as many absentee ballot requests this year, compared to the 2014 midterm.

Condos says Vermont’s voter turnout is usually good, compared to other states. He believes discourse at the national level drove turnout in the state.

The official results will be certified in the coming days. Vermont towns have until Thursday to provide information.
