Carolinas welcomes first baby of 2019, a girl

January 2, 2019

FLORENCE, S.C. – Emberly was the first baby born at the hospital at Carolinas Hospital System in 2019.

Emberly was the third-born child for mother Sarah, which she said made things easier in preparing for her arrival.

“We were ready to go except for last minute things to throw in the bag,” Sarah said.

Carolinas Hospital System advised the family not to give their last name for publication.

Doug, Emberly’s father, said labor went quicker than he expected, and Sarah made the labor look easy.

“This one was a lot more streamlined for sure,” Doug said. “It was a lot easier this time than last time. We already knew what to do.”

Emberly weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces and measured about 20 inches and had no complications during pregnancy, Sarah said.

Emberly has two older girl siblings, Kayla and Aislynn, making Doug the only male in the household.

“You know, I’ve been outnumbered all of my life,” Doug said. “So, it’s not going to really be any different. I’ll just get less of a say in anything.”

Aislynn, the middle child, said she wanted a baby brother, but she is excited to do her baby sister’s hair and makeup when she gets older.

Sarah and Doug said this is the last child they will have.

“We’re done,” Sarah said. “No more children. Three is enough.”
