Prep notebook: Harvey reaches RedStorm milestone

April 1, 2019

Last week was huge for former Spring Valley High School baseball star Zach Harvey.

Harvey became the University of Rio Grande’s all-time strikeout leader when he whiffed seven in the RedStorm’s 11-0 victory over Brescia.

A senior right-hander, Harvey surpassed the mark of 278 strikeouts set by Desmond Sullivan from 2008 through 2011. Harvey also tied Sullivan’s school mark of six shutouts. Harvey’s seven wins ties him for second nationally in NAIA.

Harvey also was named the River States Conference pitcher of the week.
