SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — A fiery crash in the Dominican Republic has claimed the lives of six people, including two soldiers.

Officials say the victims were killed late Friday when their all-terrain vehicle crashed into a truck west of Santo Domingo. Transportation spokesman Diego Pesqueira said Saturday that investigators were interviewing the truck driver.

The Dominican Republic has the world’s second-highest rate of traffic-related deaths.

The Inter-American Development Bank announced last year it was donating $500,000 to help the Dominican government take steps to reduce traffic accidents by 50 percent over the next five years.
