Blue Jays Fire Assistant GM

October 27, 2005

TORONTO (AP) _ Tim McCleary was fired as assistant general manager of the Blue Jays on Thursday after holding the job since 1995.

``This was a truly difficult decision to make as Tim is more than just a good baseball man, he’s a good friend,″ general manger J.P. Ricciardi said. ``But we needed to make a change.″

McCleary’s responsibilities included contract negotiations, budgeting and arbitration. Before coming to Toronto he was an assistant GM with the New York Yankees.

The Blue Jays (80-82) finished 15 games out of first place in the AL East.
