No. 9 Auburn 54, New Orleans 50
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) _ Lauretta Freeman blocked a shot with seven seconds remaining and Kristen Mulligan hit two free throws as No. 9 Auburn defeated New Orleans 54-50 Wednesday night.
Auburn led 37-23 at halftime and Freeman scored the opening basket in the second half. But the Lady Tigers went scoreless for 5:09 as New Orleans reeled off eight straight points to cut the lead to 39-31.
New Orleans used a 14-4 run to close to 48-47. Mulligan hit two free throws and New Orleans’ Cassandra Lumpkins made one foul shot to make it 50-48 with 3:11 left.
There was no scoring for the next two minutes before Terryland Robinson hit a short bank shot with a minute left and Kenya Robinson hit two free throws.
Monique Morehouse missed a foul shot for Auburn, and Robin Martin attempted to tie it up for New Orleans on their next possession. But Freeman blocked the shot and Mulligan’s free throws put the game away.
Samantha Williams led Auburn with 20 points and 10 rebounds. T.J. Banks led New Orleans with 17 points.
