Vern E. Havener Jr., 63, of Kankakee and formerly of Limestone, passed away Thursday (Nov. 29, 2018) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. He was born July 3, 1955, in Kankakee, the son of Vernon E. Sr. and Donna (Anderson) Havener. Vern married Jacqueline Gray on Jan. 28, 1984, in Kankakee.
Vern retired from Local 150 as a heavy equipment operator and from the Limestone Township Fire Protection District. After retirement, he drove part time for FS Grain. He enjoyed meeting at Dunkin’ Donuts with his group every morning, but his favorite days were spent boating with his grandchildren on the Kankakee River. He was a member of the Kankakee Valley Boat Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Havener, of Kankakee; three sons, Brent Havener, of Limestone, Tyler (Kristi) Havener, of St. Charles, and Dane (Kendi) Havener, of Dutton, Va.; three grandchildren, Riley, Jace and Colt; two sisters, Iona Naese and Margo (Robert) Helgeson; his mother, Donna Havener, of Brownsville, Texas; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A party to celebrate Vern’s life will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Kankakee Valley Boat Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Limestone Fire Department or Kankakee Valley Boat Club.
