Man convicted of possessing child porn now faces new charges
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man convicted of distributing child pornography more than 10 years ago is now facing similar charges.
Federal prosecutors say Christopher Gardiner communicated with an undercover FBI agent via a social messaging app during a three-month period earlier this year. They say the 35-year-old Cranford man also posted multiple videos in a chatroom showing sex acts involving children.
Gardiner was arrested Monday and made his initial court appearance later that day. A judge ordered him detained until his trial on child porn possession and distribution charges.
Officials say Gardiner was convicted in New Jersey of child endangerment for distributing child porn in 2007. He received a suspended three-year state prison term and had to register as a sex offender.
It’s not known if Gardiner has retained an attorney.
