Vietnam Frees 56 Inmates
HANOI, Vietnam (AP) _ Two Hanoi prisons have freed 56 inmates and reduced the sentences of 128 others to mark the Tet lunar new year holiday, prison officials said Saturday.
The Hanoi People’s Court approved the amnesty and sentence reductions Friday. The two prisons hold inmates serving sentences of less than five years.
Last year, nearly 8,000 inmates were given presidential amnesties.
