Bomb Fear Closes Detroit Tunnel
DETROIT (AP) _ The tunnel linking the city of Detroit to Windsor, Ontario, was closed for about 1 1/2 hours Monday after a man dropped off a package that U.S. Customs agents thought was a bomb, police said.
The Detroit police bomb squad later determined the package did not contain an explosive, Sgt. Ricardo Moore said. Using a description given by tunnel workers, police later arrested a 44-year-old suspect. He was not immediately charged.
The man had walked into a Customs office at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, mumbled something to agents and walked out _ leaving a cardboard box with wires, tape and batteries, Moore said.
After the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel was closed, traffic was diverted to a bridge about two miles away.
