Bulls Sign Willoughby
DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) _ The Chicago Bulls signed free agent guard Dedric Willoughby on Thursday and waived forward-center Doug Swenson.
The 6-foot-3 Willoughby, who played the last two seasons in an Italian league, has been working out the past few days with the Bulls. Willoughby is expected to serve as a backup point guard until B.J. Armstrong returns from knee surgery.
The New Orleans native played for Bulls coach Tim Floyd at Iowa State, where he averaged 19.8 points in two seasons and left with school records for 3-pointers made (190) and attempted (487).
Swenson, 6-10, sat out the preseason with a left calf injury. Swenson averaged 11.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in helping Creighton win the Missouri Valley Conference tournament title and earn a berth in the NCAA tournament last spring.
On Wednesday, the Bulls waived Cory Carr, their only healthy point guard behind starter Randy Brown. Armstrong is still three weeks from returning.
Terms of Willoughby’s contract were not disclosed.
