UNDATED (AP) — Alex Smith’s wife says the Washington Redskins quarterback is home from the hospital after a series of surgeries on his broken leg. Elizabeth Smith posted an update on Instagram this morning saying that the last month has been “a difficult ride” and their family is “beyond happy” to have Smith back home. Smith suffered a spiral fracture in his right leg in a game against the Houston Texans on Nov. 18 and had surgery the next day to repair his fibula and tibia.
CHICAGO (AP) — Aaron Rodgers’ NFL record of 402 pass attempts without an interception has come to an end in Chicago. The Green Bay quarterback’s pass bounced off tight end Jimmy Graham in the end zone and settled into the arms of Bears defensive back Eddie Jackson. The Bears beat the Packers 24-17.
NEW YORK (AP) — Alex Tuch buried a sharp-angled shot just over two minutes into overtime, giving the Vegas Golden Knights a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 27 shots in his 923rd career victory, which moved him into a tie with Tony Esposito for ninth on the NHL’s wins list.Henrik Lundqvist made 37 saves as New York dropped its third consecutive home game, all after regulation.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes have defeated the Arizona Coyotes 3-0 for their second victory in seven games this month. Warren Foegele scored his first goal since October and Petr Mrazek made 23 saves in his first shutout of the season.
MIAMI (AP) — Florida International University won’t have running back Shawndarrius Phillips for the Bahamas Bowl this week, following his arrest on a domestic violence charge. Phillips was arrested Dec. 12, nearly six months after the alleged incident took place. Phillips appeared in 11 games for the Panthers, rushing for 393 yards and four touchdowns.
