Undated (AP) _ Mark Chip, finding a muddy track to his liking, outlasted Present Value and Stylish Winner in a photo finish to win the $55,000 allowance feature at Santa Anita Friday.

Mark Chip beat Present Value by a head, with Stylish Winner finishing another half-length back.

Mark Chip covered the 1 1-16 miles in 1:42 2-5 and paid $8.60, $5.60 and $3 as the third choice of the crowd of 15,551. Mark Chip, trained by John Sadler for owners Marianne Millard and Bea Rous of San Jacinto, Calif., scored his seventh victory in 27 starts and won $30,250 to push his earnings to $287,940.

The 6-year-old Mark Chip gave jockey Gary Stevens his third straight victory of the afternoon. Stevens also won with Ballet Time ($4.20) in the sixth race and Afloat ($9.40) in the seventh.

Mark Chip and Present Value, a longshot from Canada, battled from the outset. Favored Stylish Winner came up on the outside to challenge in the stretch.

Present Value, with Bill Shoemaker aboard, paid $17.20 and $5.80. Stylish Winner, with Corey Black up, paid $2.60 to show.
