NEW YORK (AP) _ The Dow Jones industrial average is down 71 points in today's early going. Advancing issues on the New York Stock Exchange hold a slim lead over decliners.

The Nasdaq Composite Index is ahead 28 points and the Standard & Poor's 500 Stock Index is up nearly two points.

Wall Street has more earnings to worry about today.

Photo concern Eastman Kodak says its third quarter profits will fall below earlier estimates, and its fourth-quarter results may as well, because of a sales shortfall.

Guess, the jeans maker, also says its quarterly results will fail to meet expectations.

But Palm has reported better-than-expected results for its most recent quarter.

And on the economic front, a survey of September consumer confidence is due to be released at 10 a.m. EDT.
