Possible hit-and-run in death of Battle Mountain bicyclist

BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. (AP) — State and local law officers in northern Nevada are investigating the death of a bicyclist near Battle Mountain who may have been the victim of a hit-and-run accident.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports authorities are searching for a Dodge pickup that may have been involved after the male bicyclist was found dead next to his bike at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers and Lander County Sheriff’s deputies found a right-side mirror from a Dodge truck Thursday morning in an area near the accident along Frontage Road 401 about 4 miles (6 kilometers) east of Battle Mountain.

The victim’s name has not been released but investigators say he was a Battle Mountain resident.
