BERLIN (AP) — Ferry Weertmann of the Netherlands used a strong finish to win the gold medal Thursday in the men’s 10-kilometer open water race at the European Swimming Championship.
Thomas Lurz of Germany took the silver to add to the bronze he won in the 5-kilometer event a day earlier. Yevgeny Dratsev of Russia earned the bronze.
Isabelle Haerle of Germany won the women’s 5K event, ahead of Sharon von Rouwendaal of the Netherlands, winner of the 10K race on Wednesday. Mireia Belmonte of Spain took bronze.
