Baby Dumped in Hospital Laundry Suffered Fractured Skull, Parents Say
CADILLAC, Mich. (AP) _ A 3-week-old girl suffered a fractured skull when she was wadded up with dirty laundry and tossed into a hospital’s laundry room, the child’s parents said.
Fred Harris, 26, a Wexford County sheriff’s deputy, said Saturday that doctors told him his daughter, Hilary, shouldn’t suffer any permanent damage from the fracture.
The 11/4 -inch fracture, discovered during tests Friday, should heal in four to six weeks, said Harris.
Hilary was being treated for pneumonia in Cadillac’s Mercy Hospital when someone apparently scooped her up in her bedding Wednesday and tossed her into a laundry cart.
Cadillac police Sgt. Glen Feldhauser said the infant, who was being treated on the third floor, was missing about 45 minutes before being found in the first-floor laundry room.
″Our systems don’t seem to want to calm down,″ said Harris’ wife, Deborah, 27. ″I was terrified. I couldn’t believe my baby was missing.″
Vince Morrissey, a hospital spokesman, said the hospital was cooperating with police and was awaiting the outcome of the police investigation into the girl’s mishap.
