South Carolina’s Welch cleared to practice
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Aleighsa Welch was cleared to practice for No. 1 South Carolina after X-rays of her sprained neck were negative.
Welch hurt herself in the second half of the Gamecocks 77-58 victory over Auburn on Friday night after falling hard against a basket post. She walked off under her own power and was taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to South Carolina coach Dawn Staley.
A team spokeswoman said Saturday all tests were negative and Welch was re-evaluated by team physician Dr. Jeffrey Guy and given the green light to work out. Welch was expected to travel with the team for Sunday’s game at LSU.
Welch led the team with 12 points, hitting all six of her shots against Auburn before leaving with her injury. She’s started all 13 games this season.
