Patriots’ manpower shortage reflective on scoreboard
BULLHEAD CITY — The Patriots are down to 10 football players, which leaves very little room to take a breather in the Arizona Interscholastic Association 8-man 1A football conference.
The 0-2 overall, 0-0 in the AIA 1A West Region will play at 7 tonight at Firebird Field against the 0-2 overall, 0-0 in the AIA 1A North Fredonia High School Lynx.
Patriots head coach Adam Gibson’s squad fell to the AIA 1A North Region El Capitan High School Eagles 70-12 at Firebird Field on Sept. 1.
Senior quarterback Coleton Brook scored MALC’s first TD on a 60-yard run, Gibson said. Freshman running back Kelden Holmes’ second-quarter 55-yard TD run was the Patriots’ second and last tally of the game.
Sophomore Damien Burris had a 70-yard kick return for TD called back because MALC was penalized on the play.
Gibson described being down to 10 players as “rough.”
“It’s very hard to compete in a whole game,” he added. “They have a lot of heart.”
