Firefighters battle abandoned house fire
HUNTINGTON — The Huntington Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 8:18 p.m. Thursday on Trenton Place, between 6th and 7th avenues.
According to Huntington Fire Chief Jan Rader, firefighters immediately encountered heavy flames, and upon entering the structure it became unstable very quickly.
Incident commander Deputy Chief Brian Grieco called for evacuation tones to alert firefighters to exit the structure due to unsafe conditions.
As of 9 p.m., Rader said the structure was under control but still unsafe. Due to the heat, two firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion, but no injuries were reported.
No civilians were injured.
Firefighters protected houses on both sides of the burning house and no damage was reported to those residences as of press time Thursday.
Additional firefighters were called to man a reserve truck in case of other incidents during the Trenton Place fire.
Rader said Sheetz on 6th Avenue donated water and Gatorade to the responding firefighters.
